Everyone has a new opinion of LeBron James now. If you’re a Cavaliers fan you hate him, if you’re an NBA fan you hate him, if you’re a Heat fan you’re a liar, they don’t exist. Me? I’ve always hated him. I never liked his pregame antics and prancing around the sidelines in blow out wins, then when the shoe is on the other foot he pouts and leaves the court. Now we all have even more reason to hate him.
We shouldn’t care that he left Cleveland, he has every right to. Though, I’m convinced he was behind every roster move they made, so it’s not entirely the Cavs fault they couldn’t put a winning team around him. Leaving the Cavs reveals a little about his character (not very competitive or loyal), but doing it on live television should make any normal human hate him. The Heat will still have an unbelievable bandwagon, but those aren’t normal human beings.
I can only hope LeBron saw this… Steve Carell and Paul Rudd “The Decision” Spoof
and realized how ridiculous “The Decision” was. Honestly, I don’t think he’ll “get it”.
The good to come out of this is that I can’t wait for October. I now have 29 favorite teams.
July 1st, 2010 | NBA |
It’s the summer of 2010, the one we’ve all been waiting for. LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh, Amar’e Stoudemire, Carlos Boozer, Joe Johnson, all free agents. Everyone is dying to know where they will all end up and I’m here to tell you!…that I have no idea, but I do have uninformed opinions. Now is the time to move on since the Bucks inked Drew Gooden, obviously the most sought-after free agent this summer, for 5 years and $32 million, ughh.

It’s been well documented that the teams in the running for these free agents are their originals teams plus the New York Knicks, New Jersey Nets, Chicago Bulls, Miami Heat, and Los Angeles Clippers (HA). As I said in my draft recap, I think New York really screwed themselves over by not adding any talent whatsoever to their team. The Bulls didn’t do the right thing either but they didn’t have to, they were lucky enough to win the Draft Lottery a few years ago and get Derrick Rose, their biggest selling point for a potential free agent, besides the media market. The New Jersey Nets have Jay Z, Russian billionaire, and a move to Brooklyn on their side so I wouldn’t underestimate them even if their roster isn’t great. The Miami Heat have (most likely) Dwayne Wade, South Beach, and then no one. I expect them to dump Michael Beasley soon. Finally, the Clippers have probably the most talented roster among these teams but they have an incompetent owner and franchise so they are pretty much out of the running. So what do I anticipate happening?

June 30th, 2010 | Draft, NBA |
1. Sacramento Kings
The Kings added DeMarcus Cousins and Hassan Whiteside, two of the highest upside big men in the draft. They also picked them up with good value selections. Cousins shouldn’t have fallen to #5 and Whiteside shouldn’t have fallen to the 2nd round. There is still a chance both could bust and mess with team chemistry, but if they hit on both, combined with Tyreke Evans, the Kings could be title contenders in the near future. If they hit on one of them, that’s still pretty good. Prettay, prettay, prettayyy good.
2. Oklahoma City Thunder
It seems the Thunder are on the winners list every draft. They came in needing a center and they got 2. They were able to pick up Cole Aldrich in a trade and a future 1st round pick. The rich get richer I guess. That team is very talented.
3. Los Angeles Clippers
They still won’t be any good, no matter how many great players they have, but having Al-Farouq Aminu fall to #8 was certainly welcomed by them. Picking up Eric Bledsoe in a trade with the Thunder could turn out to be decent, though the Clippers still can’t play defense.
That’s it for clear winners from me, I could list a lot of teams that could potentially be big winners of the draft but that’s always the case with any draft. No, I’m not going to list teams like the Chicago Bulls just because they managed to get rid of their draft picks to clear cap space for the LeBron James sweepstakes. That’s not part of the draft. I’ll have a post about Free Agency coming up soon.
June 29th, 2010 | Draft, NBA |
Here are the losers from the 2010 NBA Draft because it’s always fun to make fun of people when they’re bad at their job. Yes, you David Kahn.
1. Minnesota Timberwolves
They did get Wesley Johnson who I think will be a good player but I wont give Kahn credit for that because there weren’t even any Point Guards tempting him. The pick was essentially made for him.
The draft looked to take a solid turn for the Timberwolves when Luke Babbitt fell to them at #16. Then I hear they aren’t expected to keep him.
Here’s a look back at my thoughts as this transpired…
“Alright, well at least they look at him as an asset to get a better fit for their team, let’s see what they get.”
….Martell Webster from Portland, “Ok, decent start, maybe they’ll grab a 1st round pick for next year.”
“Wait, they aren’t getting anything else back?”
Ryan Gomes also headed to Portland. “Wait, they aren’t getting anything else back AND they’re sending Gomes, a slightly better Martell Webster, to Portland?”
I’ve finally settled down from that monstrosity to see the Timberwolves selecting again. Just when you think there’s no way Kahn does anything else outrageous he drafts Trevor Booker, and totally redeems himself. Good value at #45. Wait, that was #23? Was Booker ever projected to go anywhere near the first round? Doesn’t Kahn realize teams were dying to get rid of selections and he could easily buy one of them later if he liked Booker that much? Ohhh, he’s trading Booker, this makes a little more sense. Must be a good pick up if someone really wanted Booker, the Wolves get Lazar Hayward, a 6-6 ’small forward’ who essentially played Power Forward/Center for Marquette. On top of that, he’s worse than Booker. Kahn would be first on my speed dial if I was a GM.
Why does he have a job? I don’t mean a General Manager job, I mean ANY job. I wouldn’t trust him not to screw up my order at McDonalds, yet he gets one of the best jobs in the world.

June 23rd, 2010 | Draft, NBA |
I’ve never done an NBA Mock Draft before, so instead of the usual boring guessing who’s going where, I’ll give my opinion on what the team should do with their pick. Sometimes the right thing to do is unpopular but I guarantee my ideas are better than whatever the General Managers are thinking.
NBA Mock Draft
1. Washington Wizards
They will take- John Wall-PG
Most likely the best player in the draft and gives them a good excuse to get rid of Gilbert Arenas.
They should take- Greg Monroe-PF/C
He just looks like a good bodyguard. That way Gilbert won’t feel the need to carry a gun with him to the locker room and they don’t have to pay for a separate guard.
2. Philadelphia 76ers
They will take-Evan Turner-SG/SF
Turner provides more offense and makes Andre Iguodala expendable if they still want salary relief. 76ers still don’t have guys that can shoot.
They should take-Evan Turner-SG/SF
And then trade Andre Iguodala to the Bucks for expiring contracts, thanks.
3. New Jersey Nets
They will take- Derrick Favors-PF/C
Taking Favors creates a good tandem with Brook Lopez, but they better ask Lebron James for his opinion first.
They should take- DeMarcus Cousins-C
Favors is more of a Power Forward and so is Brook Lopez. Cousins is a real center and makes a better big man tandem with Lopez. I don’t care though, I just want to see the Russian billionaire do something crazy and I expect him to. If you look like you should be the bad guy in the next ‘Die Hard’ then you have no choice but to create a stir in your first draft.

8:18-GASOL FACE! A wave of energy has suddenly hit me.
8:20-Hey look, a new television show about police, intriguing. Wonder what that’s going to be like.
8:26-The whole cast of the new movie ‘Grown Ups’ just happens to be sitting court side next to the Lakers bench, what a coincidence. They must be big basketball fans.
8:38-Why wasn’t there more outrage from Glen Davis over the nickname ‘Big Baby’?

Here is a break from the usual sports diary, my thoughts on the NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement…
As many NFL fans know, the owners and the Players Union are responsible for reaching an agreement on a new Collective Bargaining Agreement before the 2010 season. The reason most fans should pay attention to this is because within the current CBA there is a provision that the final season of the agreement (2010) must be an uncapped salary season. There is no doubt that a deal will eventually be struck, but will we lose the salary cap forever? Possibly.
The reason the NFL and other leagues can use a salary cap in the first place is due to the Non-Statutory Labor Exemption created as a part of the Clayton Act in 1914, which allows owners and Players Union to negotiate and come to agreements, like a salary cap, that would normally be an antitrust violation. The salary cap and free agency were created in the NFL when antitrust law was applied on the the basis of restrictions on player movements in a suit filed by a group led by Reggie White. In the current CBA, the NFL would be under antitrust liability if an agreement can’t be reached six months after it expires, or if negotiations are argued to impasse, whichever comes later. So there is incentive on both sides to get a deal done quickly, or risk losing their exemption.

This is a sample of the running commentary that will be available on this site…
A running commentary on the 2009 MLB All Star Game, time stamped because I’m not smart enough to remember all of my random thoughts.
12:16 PM-Did anyone that watched the Home Run Derby last night actually get any use out of the “ball tracker” ESPN was using? I can see how some might think it looks cool that you can see the trail of the ball, but is there anyone out there that needs the trail to turn green a split second before it’s a home run? Do we really not have the time to wait and see for ourselves?
-Also, congrats to my man Prince Fielder on the victory, didn’t think he would have enough in the tank to finish it out, but he clearly stole the show with a 503 foot Home Run to right center, an average of 438 feet per home run, and 120 foot long jersey, that somewhat resembled a robe. As a Brewers fan I’m glad he un-tucked in St. Louis, hopefully Cardinals TV announcer Rick Horton and Albert Pujols, the guardians of all that is class and baseball tradition, were watching.
